To answer this question it is necessary to talk about the limitations of 3D technology, and why people remain – for the most part – sceptical.
The first problem is the lack of quality content that is available for a 3D home experience. Not only are they annoying and generally uncomfortable, they are also expensive and only work with specific TVs – meaning that every upgrade requires the purchase of yet another pair of a glasses that no-one really likes. There is no universal standard for 3D glasses, and the few pseudo ‘universal’ product that do exist kind of suck.
The third and possibly biggest problem of all is the perception of 3D technology as a short-lived trend. Lots of people are unsure just how developed 3D TV truly is, and others still think it is some kind of gimmick. The speed that 3D hit the market is in many ways both its success and its failure. Lots of people seem to be thinking – if a technology can emerge so quickly, what is stopping it from being superseded just as fast.
